Makindye Gears Up for Kyagulanyi Campaign Visit

Supporters of the National Unity Platform (NUP) in Makindye are in the final stages of preparation ahead of a campaign visit by the party leader and presidential aspirant, Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, scheduled for today, Monday.

The preparations are being coordinated by NUP leaders and candidates in the area, including Zahala Luyulika, the Makindye West parliamentary aspirant, and Kasirye Nganda Mulyanyama, the Mayor of Makindye East and parliamentary hopeful.

Party officials say consultations with security agencies have been concluded and that all agreed arrangements are expected to be respected to ensure a peaceful campaign.

“We have completed all the necessary preparations and held meetings with security agencies. We expect them to stick to what was agreed so that the campaign can proceed peacefully,” Luyulika said.

In Makindye West, preparations are already visible, with Ugandan flags erected and the Lukuli playground in Lower Konge prepared to host the first rally. According to organisers, Kyagulanyi is expected to begin his campaign activities in Makindye West before proceeding via the Express Highway and Munyonyo to address supporters at Lukuli.

“We agreed on the movement plan. The presidential aspirant will begin from Makindye West, use the Express Highway, pass through Munyonyo and then address the rally at Lukuli,” Luyulika added.

After the Makindye West engagement, Kyagulanyi is expected to proceed to Makindye East, where a second rally will be held opposite St Kaloli Church along Gaba Road.

Kasirye Nganda Mulyanyama said lessons had been learned from previous restrictions and disruptions, leading to better coordination with security agencies.

“After the challenges we faced before, we sat down and agreed on clear arrangements with security,” Mulyanyama said.

He added that after the Makindye East rally, Kyagulanyi will use Water Pump Road and later the Northern Express Highway to return home, avoiding the city centre.

NUP leaders have appealed to security agencies to adopt a flexible approach to maintain calm and prevent disruptions during the campaign.

“We are calling upon security to change their previous approach so that the campaign can be conducted without violence or confusion,” the mayor said.

It was also confirmed that before attending his first rally, Kyagulanyi will make a stopover at the residence of Prince Kassim Nakibinge.

Party leaders have urged NUP supporters to turn up in large numbers to attend the rallies and listen to the message of their presidential candidate.
